2C Kids Succeed awarded $750,000 through IDHW Community Grant (Phase 2)

For Immediate Release

(September 16, 2022) — 2C Kids Succeed Early Learning Collaborative (2C Kids) recently received $750,000 in additional funding through the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare (DHW) Community Grant (Phase 2) to continue work building a healthy and resilient community for children in Canyon County.

2C Kids is a regional collaborative composed of business leaders, educators, municipal leaders, legislators, and nonprofits committed to addressing early childhood trauma and promoting resilience. In order to achieve this goal, 2C Kids provides preschool services, upgrades learning materials and facilities, and supports access to financial assistance, family outreach programs, and summer programs.

A portion of this year’s grant will help the Nampa Early Childhood Learning Center serve 20 more children, hire a certified teacher, and fund equipment, materials and professional development.

“This grant coupled with the support of our patrons and community partners has allowed Nampa School District to expand services and support for our preschool students over the past few years,” said Ben Kincheloe, NECLC principal. “We have added two inclusive/integrated classrooms and one general education classroom to our district preschool options, as well as family classes at the Nampa Public Library. We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with 2C Kids Succeed in support of Nampa and Canyon County’s children.”

Canyon County is the second most populated and fastest growing county in the State of Idaho, and in 2019 75.8% of four- to -five-year-old children living there were not receiving any formal education. Additionally, the 2021 Kids Count Data Book reported 36-41% of Canyon County fourth-grade students completing the 2019 ISAT English Language Arts scored below basic reading level. These data show the need to implement a robust plan to support the developmental needs of children across the region.
